San Marzano D.O.P. Tomato Sauce

Ingredients

Serves 4
2 Tbsp Pastene Extra Virgin Olive Oil
½ sweet onion, diced
5-6 garlic cloves, minced
salt and pepper to taste
1 796 ml can Pastene San Marzano D.O.P. Tomatoes
¼ cup fresh basil, chopped
1 tsp dried oregano

Directions

Prep time: 5-10 minutes | Cook time: 40 minutes

  • On low heat in a medium pan, cook onions in the oil for 8 minutes to draw out their natural sweetness. Add garlic, salt, and pepper. Cook another 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Add tomatoes and break up with a spoon. Add basil and oregano, stirring gently until evenly mixed. Let cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • The tomatoes will breakdown as they cook and result in a thicker, chunkier sauce. If you prefer a smooth sauce, use a hand-puree tool or power blender for desired consistency.
  • Serve over your favorite pasta.
